The story behind SIx M
The Story Behind Six M Australian Cattle Dogs have been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I grew up with them. My dad bred cattle dogs when I was younger, so their loyalty, intelligence, toughness, and larger-than-life personalities were something I knew long before I ever thought about raising them myself. Then came Six Shooter. Six was given to me as a gift from my Mom, and when we brought her home, we had no idea she was deaf. We figured it out afterward when we started noticing that she didn’t respond to sounds the way our other dogs did. At first, I thought having a deaf dog would mean everything would be harder. Instead, Six taught me just how incredibly smart and adaptable this breed can be. We learned how to communicate differently, and because of that, I learned to pay attention to things I might have otherwise missed—her body language, her expressions, and the little ways she was always watching me. Six didn’t introduce me to cattle dogs. She made me realize how much this breed had already become a part of who I am. I grew up with cattle dogs because of my family, but Six gave me a reason to continue that story for myself. That’s where Six M Cattle Dogs began. My goal is to raise intelligent, loyal, well-rounded Australian Cattle Dogs that represent everything I’ve loved about this breed since I was little—dogs with grit, personality, heart, and that unmistakable cattle dog devotion. Six may never hear me call her name, but she doesn’t need to. She knows she’s my girl. And she’ll always be the heart and soul of Six M Cattle Dogs. While Six is the heart, inspiration, and namesake behind our program, she is not one of our breeding females. Six is spayed and will never be bred. Her deafness is part of her story, but it is not something we want to intentionally reproduce. I take the health of the dogs I raise seriously. Breeding isn’t simply about producing puppies that look a certain way. It’s about making thoughtful decisions with the health, temperament, genetics, structure, and future of the breed in mind. The dogs chosen for my breeding program are selected intentionally, because I want every litter to be something I can stand behind. Although Six is the inspiration behind my program, she is NOT part of the breeding program. She is spayed and lives the life she deserves - as my best friend, my constant companion, and the dog who started it all.
